The Cost of
Fuel Make Your Blood Boil?
£1.00
a Litre Broken! |
 |
UK
Fuel taxes & prices are amongst the highest
in Europe and possibly the world. Strange for
an oil producer! And that's just the tip of
the iceberg, everything goes up as cost of
delivery spirals out of control. Read on...
YOU
CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Campaign
to Reduce UK Fuel Tax.
A Rip-off at Almost £1.00 a Litre?
BanThePumps.com is pushing for ALL British consumers to take action.
United we can influence Government policy.
In
2002 Britain was brought to a standstill by the
fuel blockades - they didn't work!
Then
the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day' campaign
failed!
The
Government just laughed at that
because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt
ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more
of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem
for them.
BUT,
BanThePumps.com, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read on and join in!

Auctioneer living in Oxfordshire ditch
An Oxford law graduate who works at Sotheby’s is sleeping
in a ditch for a year to cut down on living costs.
Hugh Sawyer, 32, says he is continuing his high-flying career
whilst surviving in the woods near the Oxfordshire village
of Lewknor.
With just a few items of clothing, a cooking stove, and
a sleeping bag, Mr Sawyer claims to have set out on his eccentric
adventure in June.
In an interview with The Observer he said: “I am trying
to prove it is possible to do everything you normally do,
maintaining a full existence, while cutting back.
“I have realised I can lead my life without television,
carpets, sofa, electricity, chairs, tables, a fridge and
a freezer.”
Apparently things have not gone well so far for Mr Sawyer,
who commutes to London for his job in Sotheby’s bids
department. He has already been forced to move ditch after
being mugged, and he fell ill after trying to make Thames
water drinkable with a purifying tablet.
When it rains he shelters under a piece of tarpaulin - but
during a recent downpour he still got soaked by ground water.
“When I first wake up I think `Oh my God I am living
in the woods,’ but then I get up and it really is nice
being surrounded by country,” said Mr Sawyer.
“The amazing views on the way to the bus stop make
it worthwhile and you can spot the changes in season.”
Girlfriend Natalie Skidmore, 24, said: “My friends
think it is strange when I say he lives in the woods but
now I am really proud of him.”
Mr Sawyer, who now claims to be “completely at ease” in
the countryside, says he is using the experience to raise
money for the Woodland Trust.
Schoolfriend to sell Princess Diana letter
A school friend of the late Princess Diana is cashing in
on a personal letter containing the former Royal’s
teenage thoughts by selling it on internet auction site
eBay for £20,000.
Cara Howard says she received the letter - handwritten
by the late princess - after Diana left the public school
they both went to in 1977. The highly personal letter,
in which the late princess speaks of being shocked at
receiving a mystery Valentines card, was written when
Diana was just 16 and at finishing school in Switzerland.
The letter, in which Diana confesses to stealing hand cream
from an aeroplane and “over-eating”, was written
just four years before she married Prince Charles in 1981.
The demand for Diana memorabilia has rocketed since her death
in 1997 - to the point where even slices of her wedding cake
sell for hundreds of pounds at auction.
Mrs Howard, 43, says she is cashing in on the personal letter
because she “needs the money.”
In an extract of the letter released by Mrs Howard, Diana
writes to her school chum: “When I got back here I
had a valentine card waiting for me - yes, it was a shock
for me as well! It’s really bugging me as I can’t
think who sent it!
“There has been no skiing this week due to it raining
(I can’t seem to get away from her!) so we have all
been v bored, so have taken to swimming and causing tidal
waves due to overeating and also I have been picking my nose
- which is not pretty but it takes the time away!”
The letter, dated February 26, is scrawled on an airmail
envelope, and is signed “L of L Diana x”.
H&H Classic Car Auction
One of the key car lots entered for H&H’s September
20-21 auction in Buxton is a 1903 De Dion Bouton 8hp, reputedly
once the property of Brigitte Bardot. An entry for this year’s
London to Brighton run, the vehicle is finished in maroon
with a black trim and carries an estimate of £40,000-£50,000.
Other cars up for auction include a 1902 Rochet Type D Voiturette
Vis-à-vis 4.5hp (£25,000-£28,000), a pre-1900
Hurtu-Benz (£20,000-£25,000) and a rare 1906
CGV 20bhp Open Drive Landaulette (£24,000-£28,000).
A range of motorsport related items will also be on sale,
including a complete album of prints charting the design
and development of the original BRM Grand Prix car and a
range of ephemera collected by former rally co-driver and
TV personality Tony Mason.
The automobilia will be auctioned on Tuesday September 20th
and the cars the following day. Further information can be
found at www.classic-auctions.com
or by calling 01925 730630.
Northern Ireland Watchtower Makes A Million On eBay
The dismantled remains of Rosemount watchtower have been
allegedly sold for an astounding £1m on Internet
auction site eBay.
The army watchtower, long since an issue of great debate
here in the city, was dismantled several years ago as part
of the peace process.
Now it has been claimed that the huge imposing tower has
been auctioned on the popular Internet site for £1m,
with an additional fee of £5 for postage and packaging!
The eBay seller described the contentious watchtower that
once stood in Creggan Hill as a property that “commands
stunning views of the entire city” and also as a “compact
dwelling with triple glazing and reinforced bullet-proof
glass throughout!”
Potential owners were also informed that the sale represented
a unique opportunity to acquire a property in the very heart
of Derry’s west bank.
And the seller added that the tower needed a paint job, “although
helpful youths from the nearby Bogside area have already
made a start!”
The watchtower attracted attention from 22 bidders on the
auction site, with offers beginning at £1,916. After
a week, it was eventually sold to an unknown buyer.
However, it is thought that eBay auctioneers are set to
enlist the help of detectives to investigate the million
pound property sale as a possible hoax.
Ashes cricket bat fetches £2,400
A rare cricket bat commemorating a legendary Ashes batting
performance by an Australian side has been sold at auction
for £2,400.
The Gunn and Moore signature cricket bat is signed by all
the players who took part in the 1930 series in England,
which the Australians won 2-1.
The lot attracted four telephone bidders, including one from
Australia.
It was eventually bought by retired bank manager Mike Fry
at the Plymouth Auction Rooms on Wednesday morning.
He said: “I would certainly have paid £5,000
for that bat - I was that enthusiastic about it.”
Although the bat was not used in the series, it bettered
its pre-sale estimate of £1,500.
The 1930 series is celebrated for the outstanding performances
of Australian batsman Don Bradman, who achieved a batting
average of 139.
Bradman scored 334 at the Leeds Test - then the highest ever
Test score and a total only once bettered in the Ashes, by
English player Len Hutton in 1938.
Australia’s best Ashes innings also came in the 1930
series, when the side declared at 729 for 6 in the Lord’s
Test.
Auctioneer Paul Keen said the bat had been in an attic in
Devon for the past 30 years and was in good condition.
