'By the way think the site is great and have been to quite a few auctions St Albans, Watford & Bedford. I am making a nice little second income, but certainly not retiring, am going to take a week off work to check out the midweek sales to see if goods are any cheaper at these.

Regards
Rory

Cash In The Attic.

H&H Classic Auctions is advising people to search in their lofts for hidden valuable motoring memorabilia. H&H says that pre-War motorsport items, programmes, signatures, photos and clothing are the items most in demand now as well as some specialist post-War items, such as Aston Martin brochures as well as pre-1970 Dinky or Corgi models.

H&H's automobilia expert Matthew Kershaw adds that modern items don't generally fetch high prices unless they are linked to a prestigious name such as Ferrari. And just because a piece of memorabilia is old doesn't necessarily mean that it's valuable. Since the 1980s buyers have become more discerning, so the prices for the best items have rocketed while those of less desirable objects have plummeted

Few pieces of automotive art are valuable, according to Kershaw, but good quality originals are still rising in price, and an original Gordon Crosby could be worth a lot. There is a steady market for garage ephemera such as enamel signs and light boxes if they are in good condition. Dashboard instruments for early vehicles are popular and spare parts for prestige pre-War cars such as Bentleys and Rolls-Royces are sought after. There is always a demand for interesting manufacturers' handbooks and workshop manuals too.

Some examples of recently auctioned pieces include: a 1929 Rolls-Royce Owners' Handbook which sold for ’440; a 1908-1913 RAC Member's Badge for ’715; a 1958 BRDC Dinner Dance Menu signed by Mike Hawthorn, Colin Chapman and others for ’1210 and a 1949/1950 Austin Pathfinder Pedal Car which sold for ’3080.

Medic is struck off for attempted eBay UK scam

A FORMER paramedic who pilfered life-saving medical equipment and tried to sell it on internet auction site eBay was today struck off the professional register.

Thomas Wildman, 34, will not be able to reapply to join the register for five years. He has 28 days to appeal todayfs decision to the High Court. Mr Wildman claimed he was driven to his drastic action because of debts he owed to the Child Support Agency.

The items he offered for sale included a defibrillator, a pulse oximeter, which measures heart rate, an oxygen cylinder, oxygen masks, neck collars, burns dressings and bandages. Mr Wildman, who has already resigned from the Staffordshire Ambulance Service, did not attend a disciplinary hearing at the professionfs standards watchdog, the Health Professions Council, in London today.

A three-person panel at the HPC concluded that, if he had not resigned, Mr Wildman would have been dismissed for gross misconduct by Staffordshire Ambulance Service.

The West of England, Major Antiques Resource Area.

The West of England is home to hundreds of quality antiques businesses, including specialist dealers, antique fairs and over sixty auction houses.

Research has found that the West of England has possibly the largest antiques resources in Great Britain. Taking the City of Bath, which has it's own very active antique dealers association, as a central point the area stretches for about 80 miles in all directions. Within about two hours or so, buyers have at their disposal what is possibly the most concentrated and varied source of quality antiques services that Britain has to offer and presenting them with little, if any need to venture beyond itfs parameters.

For example, the Cotswolds, which apart from it's outstanding natural beauty is home to dozens of reputable antiques specialists in the beautiful towns of Tetbury, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh, Chipping Camden, and Burford to name just a few.

Similarly, in a southerly direction is the small market town of Honiton, Devon where the visitor will find a varied selection of no less than 29 antique dealers, with many others to be found in nearby villages, thereby extending the region southerly past Exeter and south easterly into Dorset.

Easterly and still within easy reach, buyers will find a further extensive selection of quality antiques in the picturesque town of Hungerford. With two antique centres together with fifteen other general and specialist dealers, not forgetting a regular fair, the town is perhaps one of the best-kept antiques secrets in the UK!

Whereas westerly throughout South Wales, produces some fine Welsh antique furniture including dressers and decorative items from various specialist dealers and several auction rooms including a weekly Sunday sale near Newport. The area extends as far as the tiny Welsh border town of Hay on Wye, renowned for itfs seemingly endless supply of 39 antiquarian book shops and the annual Hay Literary Festival which attracts 80,000 worldwide visitors.

The West of England also abounds with some excellent antique fairs, notably at the Royal Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, which is central to the region. The Showground is home to a very large fair on weekends six times a year by one organiser, and a regular Flea Market by another. There is also a very large fair held five times a year at West Point Exhibition Centre near Exeter with a capacity of up to 500 exhibitors, and a monthly fair on Sunday's at Malvern Showground, which is less than two hours drive away in the north of the area. There are in addition many more good quality fairs, some specialist, held throughout the region, mostly at weekends. Similarly, several dealer associations host their own events throughout the year, for example BABAADA, the Bath & Bradford on Avon Antique Dealers Association in Bath during March. LAPADA, the Association of Art & Antique Dealers at Cheltenham Racecourse in October and CADA, the Cotswold Antique Dealers Association, 'Members Exhibitions' during the same month.

Also of significant importance to the West of England antiques trade is the central location of Bristol International Airport which is served by direct daily flights to and from the USA (New York) and Switzerland (Geneva), respectively the largest *importers of British antiques and fine art. Indeed, where time is of the essence for the professional foreign buyer it would be quite possible, with the close location of some sources, that buyers could certainly get down to business within an hour or so of collecting their baggage from the aircraft.

Around the auctions: Trip Down Memory Lane.

FANCY buying a little bit of history? Then get along to Wilson's at Mallusk later next week.

For you will find an exciting collection of paintings due to come under the hammer. The works by many prominent Northern Ireland artists are being sold by the Ulster Arts Club, home to quite a few of them over the years.

"This is an interesting collection of work with something for everyone," Wilson's Land and Property manager Richard Bell tells me.

"It encapsulates a trip down memory lane with many views of Belfast by various artists.

"We have the Lisburn Rd depicted by Raymond Piper, The Bog Meadows by Lawson Burch, the Gas Works by Colin Middleton, McGlade's Bar by Rowel Friers and Sandy Row by John Bannon.

"Prominent figures from the arts scene are also portrayed including Havelock Nelson and John Frazer. Photographic images of Joe McPartland and Louis Rolston and a portrait of JG Devlin are also included in the sale.

"Then there are sculptures: a bust of William Gray by James (Seamus) Stoupe; a bust of Paddy Shea, past president of the UAC by David Pettigrew and a death mask of James Joyce, which is one of two copies of the original by Victor McCaughan."

For theatrical enthusiasts there are six framed posters designed for the Abbey theatre by Gerard Dillon, George Campbell and John Behan.

A large national theatre poster for The Playboy of The Western World will also be sold as well as 10 signed prints by well known Northern Ireland artists including Basil Blackshaw and Neil Shawcross.

In all, around 150 lots make up this highly exciting sale on Thursday evening at 7pm.

The Positive Club

Interruption

When you find yourself beginning to feel overwhelmed by negativity, you can always choose to break the pattern. Stop whatever you are doing, and for three of four minutes focus your mind on thoughts of gratitude, acceptance and peacefulness.
Breathe deeply, and relax the muscles throughout your body. Reflect on how very fortunate you are to be alive and aware in this universe that's overflowing with positive possibilities.

Give yourself a peaceful break. Give your spirit the opportunity of resetting to a more positive perspective, and it will.

In a few short moments, you can easily and naturally break free of any negative pattern in which you may have been caught. You'll be vastly better positioned to effectively respond to whatever life sends your way.

Instead of acting out of anger or frustration, fear or anxiety, you'll be able to choose your actions based on your own positive purpose. Instead of being caught up in the grip of negativity, you'll be calmly and firmly in control.

When the negativity starts to get overwhelming, choose to interrupt it with a positive, peaceful break. You'll find it can make a profound and positive difference.
